Kahuna Massage
How is a Lomi Lomi massage?

What happens during a Lomi Lomi massage? How is it performed?

lomilomiA Lomi Lomi usually commences with a stillness between the practitioner and client, often with the practitioners hands gently resting on the clients back. In this stillness the practitioner will quietly say a blessing or prayer asking for whatever healing is needed to take place during the massage. Alternatively or as well, the client may be asked to set their intention for any healing they would like to receive. The masseuse then works very intuitively with the client. In this respect there is no set format or sequence for the massage and no two massages will ever be identical.

The massage is given in fluid, rhythmic motion using the forearms as well as the hands. Some people have described this as feeling like gentle waves moving over the body. Another feature is that different parts of the body may be massaged at the same time, for example one arm or hand may be working on a shoulder and the other hand may be working on the opposite hip. This assists the recipient in totally relaxing as it is impossible or at least extremely difficult for the brain to focus on the two different areas at once.

Lomi Lomi Massage

Lomi Lomi, also known as Hawaiian Temple Style massage or Kahuna massage, is one of the most profound forms of massage. It originated in the islands of Hawaii, in the South Pacific. Lomi lomi means massage and it is a powerful form of healing developed by the master healers of the Polynesia.

Hawaii Palm TreesThe Kahunas (the wise spiritual teachers of ancient Hawaii) worked for centuries with a magical form of bodywork that gently but effectively connected with the inner soul, relieving the stress of physical ailments, as well as clearing emotional blocks.

In this unique flowing style bodywork the practitioner uses long, fluid rhythmic strokes over the whole body with the hands, fingers, forearms and elbows. The practitioner moves around the table in a dance like movement applying soft and deep tissue massage. The rhythm is very relaxing. The strokes sometimes goes all the way from the neck down to the foot. It works gently but deeply into the muscles with continuous, flowing strokes, totally nurturing the body and, enabling the recipient to relax, give in and simply be.

Lomi Lomi can release hidden memories and allow change in the body, mind and soul, bringing harmony. The massage changes the way you think, feel, move and breathe. The old memories stored in every cell of our body can be released and the client can let go of old beliefs, patterns and behaviours.

The 7 principles of Huna

Huna philosophy was developed tens of thousands of years ago by ancestors of present-day Hawaiians in Polynesia.

The basic assumptions of Huna are these:

1. IKE
The World Is What You Think It Is.
Colour: White
Power Animal: Dolphin
If you can change the thought, you can change the experience.

2. KALA
There are no limits.
Colour: Red
Power Animal: Bird
Anything is possible if you figure out how to do that. The Universe is connected to us and we are connected to the Universe. We have an ability to influence the Universe.
Nothing is totally and completely separate.
The limits that we see are limits imposed on us by our own minds and are not factual limits imposed by the universe, or something outside of ourselves.
